Asua González, José Mª

Chemist (Chemical engineering)

José M. Asua González (1953, Zaratamo) is professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU and director of the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT Fundazioa.

He graduated in Chemistry at Bilbao University (1975) and holds a doctorate from Zaragoza University (1978). He spent time conducting postdoctoral studies at the University of Liège (Belgium) and has spent sabbaticals at Lehigh University (USA) as a Fulbright scholar and the University of Waterloo (Canada) as visiting professor. He is also visiting professor at the catholic universities of Leuven (Belgium) and Dortmund
(Germany).

His main line of research is polymer reaction engineering, a field on which he has published over 260 articles, one book and co-edited a further two.  He has given over 50 guest and plenary lectures and over 150 lectures at international conferences, whilst sitting on the scientific committees of many. He is co-author of six patents and has supervised over 40 doctoral theses. 

Professor Asua has worked hard to promote relations between universities and industry, leading over 30 projects in conjunction with companies and is a business consultant in Europe and the USA.

He is on the editorial boards of the Chemical Engineering Journal, Macromolecular Materials and Engineering, and Macromolecular Reaction Engineering, and has been associate editor for Polymer Reaction Engineering and director of a NATO Advanced Study Institute.

José M. Asua González is the winner of the 2005 Euskadi Research Award and the Rhône Poulenc Award for Clean Technologies.
