Pardo Zufiaur, David

Mathematician

David Pardo Zubiaur (Getxo, Bizkaia, 1977) graduated in 2000 with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of the Basque Country and received a Master’s Degree (2002) and PhD (2004) in Applied and Computational Mathematics by the University of Texas at Austin.

During 2004-2008 he was a researcher at the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Texas. In 2008 he returned to Bilbao as the head of the Research team of the Basque Centre for Applied Mathematics (BCAM). In 2009 he joined Ikerbasque (Basque Foundation for Science) as a research professor and in 2013 he became affiliated with the Department of Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research of the University of the Basque Country.

He currently coordinates the groups carrying out research into Mathematical Modelling, Simulations and Industrial Applications at the University of the Basque Country and into Wave Propagation Simulations at the Basque Centre for Applied Mathematics. His field of research focuses on the numerical study of linear equations in partial derivatives and in their industrial applications, in particular in geophysical problems.

In 2011 he received the award for the best young applied mathematician in Spain by the Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics (SEMA). He is the copy editor of some thirty geophysics and numerical analysis journals, as well as of several international research agencies. He has published more than 140 research articles in his field, has given more than 250 specialised talks and has collaborated with a variety of national and international companies.

David Pardo Zufiaur is a young corresponding member of Jakiunde since November 2016.
