Miguel Sánchez-Ostiz (1950, Pamplona) graduated in Law from the University of Navarre, and worked as a lawyer before turning full-time to journalistic and literary work.

He has contributed to a wide range of press media since 1977, with opinion columns, literary articles and travel accounts as well as literary reviews. He currently has an opinion section in the Diario de Noticias, in Navarre, and is a literary critic for ABC, in Madrid. He has also produced publications such as reviews, prologues and catalogues for art exhibitions and has given numerous lectures at Spanish universities.

His literary work includes poetry, novels, travel accounts, biographies and essays: No existe tal lugar (1997), Palabras cruzadas (1998), El vuelo del escribano (1999), La flecha del miedo (2000), Derrotero de Pío Baroja (2000), Los barruntos de la botica (2000), La marca del cuadrante. Poetry 1979-1998 (2000), El corazón de la niebla (2001), La casa del rojo. Diarios 1995-1998 (2001), En Bayona, bajo los porches (2002), Última estación, Pamplona (2002), Peatón de Madrid (2003), La Nave de Baco (2004), Liquidación por derribo. Diarios 1999-2000 (2004), El piloto de la muerte  (2005), La isla de Juan Fernández (2005), Pío Baroja, a escena (2006), La calavera de Robinson (2006), Tiempos de tormenta (2007) and Cuaderno boliviano (2008).

Miguel Sánchez has received several awards, including: the National Review Award (1998); Euskadi Prize for Literature (1989); Herralde Novel Prize (1989); Príncipe de Viana Award for Culture (2001) and the Euskadi Essay Award (2010), and has been shortlisted for the National Literature Prize on several occasions.
