Enrique Echeburúa Odriozola (1951, Donostia-San Sebastián) is professor of Clinical Psychology at the UPV/EHU's Faculty of Psychology and senior researcher at the Centre for Biomedical Research in the Mental Health Network (CIBERSAM). He holds a degree and doctorate in Psychology from the Complutense University of Madrid and is a specialist in Clinical Psychology, furthering his training at London University's Conduct Therapy Unit at Middlesex Hospital (Dr. Meyer). He has been a visiting professor at the universities of Calgary and Quebec (Canada).
His lines of research focus on domestic violence, sexual assault, pathological gambling, serious mental disorders and clinical forensic psychology.
Professor Echeburúa is a founding member of the Basque Institute of Criminology; member of the Reina Sofía Centre's Advisory Board on the Study of Violence; head of the Consolidated Research Group on Clinical Psychology; member of the Training and Research Unit (UFI) on Psychology and Society in the 21st Century, and sits on the editorial boards of 11 national and 4 international journals.
He has authored 38 books, some of which have been translated, and over 350 articles in books and scientific journals. He has supervised 15 doctoral theses to date (six of which have received outstanding PhD thesis awards).
Professor Echeburúa has been chairman of the Basque Society of Victimology and co-director of the UPV/EHU's postgraduate course specialising in Assistance to Victims of Traumatic Experiences
Enrique Echeburúa has received the 1990 CINTECO, 1994 RAFAEL DE BURGALETA, and the 2017 EUSKADI RESEARCH AWARDS, among others.
